Adventure Van City Guide: Sedona, Arizona

As you travel  into Sedona, you’ll quickly understand why this place draws adventure van travelers. The red rocks shift color by the hour, glowing orange and gold in the morning, then deepening to crimson by sunset. Towering formations like Cathedral Rock, Bell Rock, and Courthouse Butte dominate the skyline, offering both awe-inspiring views and epic hikes. Park the van and take the short but steep climb up Cathedral Rock Trail for a sunrise you’ll never forget or try Doe Mountain Trail for 360-degree views with fewer crowds. If you prefer to keep it mellow, Red Rock Scenic Byway (SR-179) offers one of the most beautiful drives in the entire Southwest.

Sedona is famous for its “energy vortexes” swirling centers of natural energy that some say can heal or inspire. Whether you’re spiritual or skeptical, it’s hard not to feel something different here. Popular vortex sites include Bell Rock, Airport Mesa, and Boynton Canyon. Beyond the metaphysical, Sedona offers a thriving cultural scene. The Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village is a must-visit: cobblestone walkways, artisan boutiques, and galleries all framed by Mexican-inspired architecture. The Chapel of the Holy Cross, dramatically built into the red cliffs, is a stunning intersection of faith and landscape. Looking for something unique? Try stargazing with a local astronomer Sedona is a Dark Sky Community with incredible nighttime visibility.

While Sedona isn’t a hub like Vegas, it’s full of enriching experiences and small-town charm. Take a Pink Adventure Tour for an off-road ride through canyons and hidden trails. It's touristy, yes, but a blast and surprisingly educational. For something more grounded, check out local spiritual practitioners offering everything from sound baths and reiki to guided meditations. In the evenings, head to Sedona Performing Arts Center or the Mary D. Fisher Theatre, which often feature indie films, live music, or wellness-focused events. It’s not flashy, but it’s soulful which is exactly the vibe of Sedona.
